Miking drums is live and in the studio is a very delicate task. Beside the sonic attributes of the mics there's a number of other aspects to be considered, such as their sensitivity to crosstalk, ease of setup or ruggedness. B-Band from Finland have created a totally unique drum miking system, which is based on a completely different approach to conventional mics.

The signal of the pickup goes into a very compact preamp which can be permanently attached to the drum in two different ways depending on our preference and the size of the drum vent hole. Once installed, drum miking only takes to plug the cables into the preamps and that's it. Beside the comfort that hasn't been seen before, UKKO delivers two unparalleled features. Since the pickup is stuck to the shell inside the drum, it is nearly completely insensitive to crosstalk. |

Thanks to the unique isolation, the UKKO signal is perfectly suitable for triggering electronics: the mic signal coming to the audio mixer can be fed to the trigger-to-MIDI converter via the channel direct outs, so there's no need to use dedicated drum triggers. Brilliant! |
