The remedy of the Turks for those 150 years (of ruling Hungary): Turkish Cymbals

Cymbals from Turkey!

Turkish cymbals (made in Istanbul) are the first instruments I have been using as an endorser since the beginning of the 90's, when I fell in love with those great Ensoniq samplers (R.I.P). I am happy using these cymbals because I discovered them earlier than their local distributor Tam-Tam Dobcentrum introduced us to each other with the company.

These instruments can easily compete with more established cymbals without using the "if you look at the price" phrase you often hear when it comes to lesser known brands. The fact that they only cost a pure fraction of those (well – known & expensive) makes happiness even greater. And they are made in the country where (actually) cymbals were originally invented...

How durable are they?

When it comes to durability, any cymbal can crack or if we made one that cannot, it would not have a musically sensible sound. A few years ago I had a desire to have a 10" hi – hat which doesn't sound like a mouse, but it sounds bigger. I achieved this with a strange pair, one being a very thick Turkish Classic Bell at the bottom and a Classic Splash on top, which was my first Turkish cymbal. I used this combination for about two years as my main hi – hat and then it moved to the right to be the secondary hi – hat. The cymbals are fine even today, even though splash cymbals were not meant to be used as an open hi – hat in a rock band. That's my 50 cents for durability.

My Turkish cymbals

Among the many series we can find a solution with no compromise for every musical style and I use three of them: the most universal Classic, the brighter sounding Rock Beat and the dark tone Fusion cymbals. The first two are with the PRP 1000 and the Fusion is with the Yamaha Recording Custom. The latter series is ideal for recording because these are quiter so their sound will not suppress the toms in the overhead mics.
